Trickle, drip, drip, trickle, drip are words that we often hear from a running sink or tub. Maybe the constant rainfall on the rooftop, puddles plopping, swishing and rushing, pushing into crevices, crashing against the windows, gushing down your gutters or possibly gurgling down pipes. It’s the kinetic energy behind the water that will determine which sound you will hear.
Could it be that we find ourselves sometimes trickling, dripping, plopping, swishing, rushing, gurgling, pushing, crashing, & even gushing at times? I would say so. Anything that moves is said to have kinetic energy and potential energy is any kind of energy that is stored. I often wonder how much potential energy we as women store.
As it is discussed by Social Security, the Department of Labor, Census Bureau, and other sources; there are many more responsibilities that women face today that are drastically different from earlier centuries. Whether it is being the head of a household, working outside the home, being a caregiver, volunteering for organizations, family time, and/or religious commitments; it is obvious there is a lot of moving energy here. So it does make sense that at some points in our life we trickle, rush or even plop with our efforts?
Commitment is a huge action that hangs very close to a woman’s heart. It makes sense! Women were created to be relational and women want that security. Personal, brand, voluntary, or organizational, it is a commitment that means to show loyalty, duty or pledge to something or someone. Can we become over committed? I think we all know this answer. Yes, we find ourselves feeling like we have no potential energy because we are so drained from using all of our kinetic energy that we begin to trickle and drip. So we come to the place in our lives where we experience complete exhaustion from gushing too long or trickling too wide. Am I letting someone down by promising but not following through? Am I putting too much into one thing?
drip, trickle, thump, beat, swish, crash, bang, gush, gurgle, plop… drain
Our commitments and energies in life can be displayed in different forms and at different times. The wisdom comes from determining what type of rain FLOW is required from each commitment along with its duration. Finding the balance in our lives is probably the toughest job for all of us. It’s ok not to gush all the time, but in the same regards don’t trickle on every commitment opportunity that passes you. It helps to think of our energies like the rain. Our energy is formed, used for a cause, holds different characteristics, and is measured with a gauge to leave an impact behind.
